Privacy policy

PlantMemory is built to know as little about you as possible. There are no accounts. Your plant diary, photos, notes and reminders are stored on your phone. The only things that leave your device are the requests you make to the companion, and we don't keep their contents.
What stays on your device
Everything you put in your diary is saved in the app's own storage on your phone: plants, photos and videos, notes, care logs, reminders and your chat history. We have no copy of it. If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it, unless you exported an archive first.
Reminders are scheduled by your phone's own notification system and work offline. The plant care guide ships inside the app, so browsing it sends nothing.
What leaves your device, and when
Some features need a server to work. They only send data when you use them:
- Asking the companion. Your question, the parts of that plant's diary that are relevant to it, and any photo you attach to the chat are sent to our server, which passes them to an AI model to write an answer.
- Turning words into a memory. When you describe a plant or a care event in your own words, that text is sent to be turned into a diary entry or plant profile.
- Asking for a plant we don't cover yet. If you add a plant that isn't in the care guide, its name is sent so we can count how often it's requested.
- Feedback on a care guide. If you choose to send feedback, we receive the plant, the topics you flagged, and any note you write.
What we store on our server
Our server does not store your questions, the AI's answers, your diary or your photos. It keeps only what it needs to run the service fairly:
- A random install ID created by the app (not linked to your name, email or phone number), with a monthly count of your AI requests and the amount of text processed, so we can apply usage limits.
- Short-lived request IDs that prevent the same request from being charged twice.
- Anonymous daily totals of requests.
- Names of plants people asked us to add, and care-guide feedback, neither linked to an install ID.
Who processes your requests
Our server runs on Cloudflare. AI answers are produced by third-party language models reached through OpenRouter, and we have told OpenRouter to route requests only to model providers that do not store or train on your data. These providers handle your request only to produce the answer.
Voice input uses your phone's built-in speech recognition, provided by Apple or Google under their own privacy terms.
When subscriptions launch, payments will be handled by the App Store or Google Play, and subscription status by RevenueCat. We never see your payment details.
What we don't do
- No accounts, so no email address or password is collected.
- No advertising or analytics SDKs in the app.
- No selling or sharing of your data for advertising.
Photos, camera, microphone and notifications
The app asks for these permissions only to let you add photos, record memories by voice, and receive reminders. You can turn any of them off in your phone's settings, and the rest of the app keeps working.
Age
PlantMemory is intended for people 18 and over. It is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Your choices
You can export or delete your diary from within the app at any time. Because we don't hold your diary or link server data to you, there is nothing else for us to hand over or erase. If you have questions about the usage counter tied to your install ID, email us and we will help.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the app.
